Dive Sites in Rasdhoo Atoll

1.Rasdhoo Beyru

Depth: 18–30m

Rating:

Description: Wall dive along the outer reef with pinnacles — thilas — rising from the slope, and currents that can run hard. Napoleon wrasse patrol the wall, with grey reef and white-tip sharks working the deeper edge. The current is what brings the life, so this dives best on a moving tide rather than slack water.

2.Rasdhoo Channel

Depth: 22–30m

Rating:

Description: Channel between Kuramathi and Rasdhoo; strong currents; pelagics and sharks. Advanced divers only.

3.Madivaru Corner

Depth: 18–30m

Rating:

Description: Famous drift dive; walls, overhangs, big pelagics, manta cleaning stations.

4.Madivaru Channel

Depth: 25–60m

Rating:

Description: Known for hammerhead sightings and manta rays. Very strong currents, advanced divers only.

5.Miyaru Faru

Depth: 15–25m

Rating:

Description: Reef site with abundant coral and fish life. The name means shark reef in Dhivehi, and white-tip reef sharks are regularly seen along the reef edge alongside schooling snapper and fusiliers. A good site when currents are running too hard elsewhere in the atoll.

6.Beyru Kandu

Depth: 10–30m

Rating:

Description: Reef slope with a cleaning station that manta rays visit when they are in the atoll, most often during the dry season between November and April. When the mantas are in, the dive is mostly a matter of settling on the sand at a respectful distance and watching cleaner wrasse work across their gills. Good buoyancy matters more than experience here.

7.Bodu Gaa

Depth: 15–35m

Rating:

Description: A single large coral block rising from the sand — the name means big rock in Dhivehi. Healthy hard and soft coral growth across the whole structure. This is a site to dive slowly rather than cover ground: shrimps, nudibranchs and other macro life reward divers who stop and look closely, and it suits underwater photographers well.

8.Holhi Faru

Depth: 10–20m

Rating:

Description: Small, sheltered reef with gentle conditions. One of the calmer sites in the atoll, which makes it a sensible choice for a first dive after certification or a refresher after time out of the water. Shallow coral formations, dense reef fish and plenty of light for photography.

9.Three Palms

Depth: 8–20m

Rating:

Description: Shallow site scattered with coral bommies and small swim-throughs. The modest depth means long bottom times and excellent natural light, so it works as well for snorkellers as it does for divers — useful when a group is mixed between the two.

10.Big Blue

Depth: 30m+

Rating:

Description: A drop-off falling away into open water, with big schools and passing pelagics out in the blue. There is no reef to hold on to once you leave the wall, so this is an advanced dive: you need to be comfortable holding depth with no visual reference and monitoring your own gas while your attention is elsewhere.
